How is it September already?

Here in Vancouver, we very quickly notice when fall is coming - the leaves start changing color, the sun sets earlier, and we get a lot more rain than we usually do in the summer. School starts soon, and this year, we have a gradual entry schedule for daughter, which means my schedule is still wonky for the next few weeks. But I must say, I really do love summers here in Vancouver, and I really treasure the time we get to spend outdoors this time of year. From hikes to playground trips and bike rides (Jasiel just started riding without her training wheels!) - it's been so much fun.

How we celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

Growing up, my family celebrated with a dice game called Pua Tiong Chiu.

Everyone gathers around a table with a big bowl and six dice, and we take turns rolling. Different combinations correspond to different prize levels, so there's usually a LOT of cheering when someone gets a good roll. 😂

Traditionally, the prizes were mooncakes, but in our family we've had all sorts of prizes over the years, especially with the kids! It's less about what you win and more about everyone gathering around the table, taking turns, laughing and celebrating together. As the eldest daughter, I often get volunteered to put it together haha, but with gifting as my love language, I really don't mind and truly enjoy it! Here's a picture of our setup last year!

The game has roots in the Mid-Autumn traditions of Southern Fujian and is still commonly played among Chinese-Filipino families today.

It's one of those traditions I've grown up with and now get to share with my own family, which makes creating our little Mooncake Wax Seal feel that much more special. If you have questions about how to play this game, let me know!

Restocked!

This past week, we also silently restocked some items in the shop, so if you've been looking for some things, they're finally back!

The past few weeks have been so full with the kids, but I've also been prayerfully seeking God about where He's leading Written Word in this next season. The good news is that it looks like we'll be moving into a new space in the next few months, with more flexibility, lower costs, and hopefully more opportunities to host workshops and events!

With everything happening with Canada-US trade, there's been a lot to navigate as a Canadian small business. We're still figuring things out and praying through what's next. Thank you so much for continuing to support us and keeping us in your prayers. ♡

xoxo, Karla
